TAMZ DOCUMENTED ‘ON THE HORIZON: CONTEMPORARY CUBAN ART FROM THE JORGE M. PÉREZ COLLECTION’ IN PHOTO, VIDEO, AND AN ART BOOK.
When real estate moghul and art collector Jorge Perez donated seminal pieces from his collection of Cuban art to PAMM and an exhibition was curated around the work, TAMZ was there to interpret the show in photo and video, as well as to create a highly personal art book for Jorge himself.
Inside the museum, guests explored the first “chapter” of the exhibition, featuring works by artists Antonia Wright, José Bedia, Juan Carlos Alom and Sandra Ramos, each telling a profound story in each piece. Having the artists attend was a treat but gave meaning to the overall event. Having the personal interaction connected each viewer to the art directly.
Without the ability to use flash, TAMZ embraced a challenge and took more of an artistic approach. Capturing what others don’t by utilizing the surrounding lights, TAMZ implemented various camera techniques to document the art and the event in a new and very intimate, and slightly ethereal way.
AFTER SUCH A MEMORABLE EVENT, JORGE ASKED US TO DESIGN AN ART BOOK FOR HIS COLLECTION WITH SOME OF HIS FAVORITE IMAGES FROM THE NIGHT
TAMZ has done many projects for Jorge Perez before, both through his real estate development company, the Related Group, and for him personally. This time, we took many of Jorge’s favorite images from the evening, and combined into a 10×10 fine art coffee table book by TAMZ. An extremely limited edition, only three copies were made.
Previously we traveled to Cuba with him to join Obama as he made history and became the first sitting US president to visit the island since Calvin Coolidge went in 1928. “My lifetime has spanned a time of isolation between us,” Obama said. “I have come here to bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas.” TAMZ will forever be honored to have been part of that historic occasion.

We have done a project for Perez before when we traveled to Cuba with him to join Obama as he made history. The first sitting US president to visit the Communist ruled island since Calvin Coolidge did in 1928. “My lifetime has spanned a time of isolation between us,” Obama said. “I have come here to bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas.” Fast forward to 2017, we now have Perez flying in his Cuban artist that are showcased in his museum at PAMM. This also was a special time for Perez and TAMZ was there to capture the timeless moments of his ON THE HORIZON event.
